Cacao Offering
“I want to take a moment to give you some brief information on the cacao that we will be using post-breathwork and the intention behind it.
My family is from Colombia and drinking cacao is often a part of our everyday life. Unfortunately, the cultural significance, origins, and medicinal benefits have been lost over generations. Reconnecting with the true sacredness of cacao has been a really beautiful journey over the past few years.
Cacao originates from what is now known as Latin America. Pre-colonization, cacao was viewed as a sacred and medicinal plant that offered heart opening & grounding properties. How it was used varied across the continent but it was often drunk in the mornings, during ceremonies, or socially. Indigenous communities still grow and cultivate cacao today. They do so by following traditions that span thousands of years; traditions that differ greatly from the highly industrialized cacao production that you see with large manufacturers.

The ceremonial cacao that I use is from a company called ORA Cacao. I chose this brand because of their commitment to investing in the communities that they purchase cacao from and their desire to uphold ethical business practices. I specifically use cacao that they source from either the Arhuaco Tribe in Colombia or the indigenous communities that live in the K’eqchi Mayalands in Guatemala. I am deeply grateful to the communities that put so much love, time, and effort into cultivating the cacao that we will be using.
The intention of incorporating cacao into your breathwork session is to provide cacao as a guide to help ground you and connect you with your heart as you come out of your breathwork journey.
You will find many variations of how cacao is used today throughout Latin America. From savory to sweet to spicy culinary variations. I have chosen to use a recipe that is based on the cacao drink that my abuela Maria Rosa would prepare for me growing up and what you will now traditionally find throughout Colombia. The only variation to that recipe is that I now use oat milk instead of cow’s milk. I feel so grateful to be able to share cacao with you and our other clients”
